Build Peel Memorial

Proud past

A century of delivering compassionate community-inspired care and Peel Memorial's bright future as Brampton's second hospital.

Bold future

On March 28, 2025, Osler was joined by Premier Doug Ford, Deputy Premier and Minister of Health Sylvia Jones, Members of Provincial Parliament, Mayor Patrick Brown, community partners and donors to break ground on the new Peel Memorial Hospital and celebrate a Century of Caring for our Community.

Peel Memorial Centre for Integrated Health and Wellness (Peel Memorial) will transform into Brampton’s second hospital. This state-of-the-art facility will help ensure our communities have timely access to high-quality care close to home, when and where they need it most.

The new Peel Memorial Hospital will include a new multi-story patient tower, a new purpose-built 24/7 Emergency Department and new and enhanced clinics – increasing our community’s health care capacity for years to come.

What’s the status of the new Peel Memorial Hospital

Early construction begun in Spring 2025. Activities include building a temporary access road to support the next stages of construction. In October 2025, Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and Osler have signed a Development Phase Agreement (DPA) with Bird Design-Build Construction Inc., which is now the development partner selected to advance the project requirements including the design, schedule and pricing.

Meeting the needs of the community

The new hospital addresses the significant need for more specialized care for patients requiring longer hospital stays before they can safely return home or to care in the community. It will also help create more space for very sick patients at Brampton Civic Hospital.

When combined with the existing services already operating at the Peel Memorial site, the new hospital will offer many expanded and enhanced outpatient clinics and services for our growing community.

Honouring a century of care and community

In 2025, Peel Memorial celebrated its 100th anniversary – marking a century since its doors first opened to care for the community.

As the first of Osler’s five sites, Peel Memorial holds a special place in the hearts of many. It’s where families gave birth to their children, past and present colleagues started their careers; where community members generously volunteered their time; and where donors have family connections that go back to the hospital’s earliest days.

Join us in honouring a century of care and community at Peel Memorial.

Frequently asked questions

When will shovels be in the ground and when will the new Peel Memorial open its doors?

Hospitals are among the most complex projects to design and build and many stages of government planning and approvals are necessary to build them. Osler continues to proceed through the required capital development process with the Ministry of Health and IO.

In October 2025, Osler and IO, in partnership with the Ontario government, marked a significant milestone by signing a DPA with Bird Design-Build Construction Inc., which is the development partner selected to advance the project requirements including the design, schedule and pricing.

This significant milestone follows an open, fair and competitive Request for Proposal process that began in October 2024.

Once the development phase is complete, Osler and Bird Design-Build Construction Inc. will have the option to sign a final project agreement to move forward with building the new patient tower. This development phase agreement will include detailed design plans and a target price for construction. As with any large-scale construction projects, key dates are subject to change, pending additional approvals.

Early construction for the new Peel Memorial Hospital began in March 2025, with preparatory work such as site access improvements and building a temporary access road to support the next stages of construction.

Why is Osler asking the City of Brampton to help pay for the new Peel Memorial?

The Ontario Government funds 90 per cent of hospital construction costs. Communities are responsible for the remaining 10 per cent, as well as 100 per cent of equipment, information technology, furniture and many other essentials. This is called the “local share”.

In 2022, Brampton City Council approved a hospital levy towards the local share.

Community support is critical to ensure hospitals can continue to meet current and future health care needs. Osler continues to work with the City of Brampton, William Osler Health System Foundation, and the community towards reaching local share requirements.

What is Osler doing to advocate for a third hospital?

As our community continues to grow, it’s essential that health care services grow too, and support from government partners remains essential for our community’s long-term health care capacity and infrastructure.

As a leading hospital system in Ontario, Osler continues discussions with the Ontario Government and the City of Brampton on other hospital capacity priorities, including a third hospital in Brampton.

In addition to transforming Peel Memorial and expanding cancer care services for our region, Osler is planning for the future redevelopment of Etobicoke General Hospital, establishing a research institute, and is partnering with Toronto Metropolitan University to open a new School of Medicine in Brampton.
